Higher Education Research Experiences at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (HERE at ORNL) provides research opportunities and associated activities for entering freshmen, undergraduate and graduate students and recent BS and AAS graduates. The program is designed to complement academic programs by utilizing the unique resources of ORNL to enhance science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education, encourage careers in science and technology, and improve scientific literacy, while at the same time contributing to the ORNL mission.

U.S. Citizens and Legal Permanent Residents. Must be at least 18 years old prior to the start of the appointment; have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher; be a precollege student applying for the summer term immediately following high school graduation; or be currently enrolled in an undergraduate,graduate or thesis/dissertation program at a U.S. accredited institution of higher education in a STEM field or related discipline; or be a recent graduate with an AAS or BS degree.

Application is always open but for best results apply by February 1 for summer appointments, June 1 for fall/winter appointments, and October 1 for spring appointments
Stipend varies with academic level; one round-trip travel reimbursement and housing allowance (if eligible)
